Recent research carried out by the REC has found that demand for new staff members amongst businesses is strong but that said businesses struggle to find the right candidates.

The survey asked businesses a number of questions with regards to the job market and economic climate, from across the UK.

Some interesting findings from the results included:

  • 34% of employers hiring in the first quarter of 2017 stated that they had no spare capacity to take on more work
  • 49% worried about the availability of suitable candidates to fill permanent vacancies
  • 84% of hirers stated that they would be increasing temporary worker numbers with 92% looking to increase their permanent headcount

Overall it can be summarised that businesses are in dire need of suitable candidates but are not optimistic about the current hiring landscape.
